We invite you to connect your school with “The Max.” The Max Warburg Courage Curriculum has partnered with The Boston Public Schools and surrounding communties for over 20 years. Our programs are taught in public, private, charter, pilot, and parochial schools, as well as special education, inclusion, and ELL classrooms. Designed to meet state education standards, our curriculum engages students meaningfully in the reading and writing process, while helping to create positive and respectful classroom environments.
Take it from our participating teachers and parents:
- “I think the curriculum is excellent, as it recognizes that big, scary challenges are not just for adults. Kids face daunting challenges day today, and are required to make decisions that can have a significant impact for good or ill on themselves and others. Students love reading the essays of their peers, and the variety of challenges related, from playground struggles to dealing with life altering losses and illnesses, ensures that they will identify and empathize with the writers. An important comprehension strategy in the reading curriculum is making connections among the stories we read, ourselves, and the outside world. Connecting Max’s story with their own stories, and with the stories of the characters in the novels, enables students to experience deeply and personally, the power of writing.” –6th grade ELA teacher, Boston Public Schools
- “[My daughter] gained a lot of confidence in her writing skills and showed more courage herself in all aspects of life.” –6th grade parent, 2011
- “[He learned] that everyone, and especially children, have courage and may have shown courage and not even realize they did.” –6th grade parent, 2011
